Julian Cox is a qualified and experienced professional artist who is based in Bristol. In 2006 he was elected to the Royal British Society of Sculptors. He has sold work through a range of galleries across the U.K. and been included in the C20th Art & Design Fair, 20/21 British Art Fair, Affordable Art Fairs, Olympia Shows and the R.W.A. Works have also been sold at auction.

Julian’s preferred method for sculpting is direct carving and all of his limited edition bronzes are cast from original wood patterns. His ink drawings are all original works drawn with archival quality ink. Following an Art Foundation Year, Julian studied Sculpture Restoration at Roger de Grey's (P.P.R.A.), The City and Guilds of London Art School. Practical aspects of this course, which included a period of study in northern Italy, emphasized drawing, modelling, wood and stone carving, letter cutting, gilding and conservation/restoration techniques.

Following Art School, he was employed by the international fine art restorers, Plowden and Smith Ltd, in London, where he mainly worked on the restoration of wood and stone sculpture. Pieces ranged from Ancient Egyptian to Contemporary, included sculptures by Moore, Rodin and Archipenko. He also worked on the mounting and preparation for such shows as the Gothic exhibition, 'The Age of Chivalry' at the Royal Academy. Clients included the British Museum, V&A, Sotheby’s, Christie’s and many of the independent West End galleries.

Disliking the negative connotations of the term minimalist, Julian describes his work as essentialist.

‘I try to create sculptures with the appeal of sea worn pebbles and ink drawings with the apparent magic of geometry’.
