Following the success of David Simon Contemporary’s 2021 Picasso show, the gallery launches ‘Tête á Tête’ on 5th September, featuring works on paper by Marc Chagall; Le Corbusier; Salvador Dalí, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The exhibition includes a mixture of drawings and original lithographs and etchings, accompanied by a small selection of heads painted in impasto oils by Peter Clossick. The works by Henri Matisse are largely from the late 1930s through to the early 1950s and focussed on his strong use of single-line drawing. Dreamlike compositions by Chagall bring a strong colour element to the exhibition and further uses of original printmaking are demonstrated by Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso, who pushed the boundaries by exploring and creating new techniques.
Peter Clossick is an established British artist who studied at Camberwell School of Art and Goldsmiths College during the early 1970s and has been engaged in professional fine art practice since. He is a member and Past President of The London Group and a member of the New English Art Club under the Federation of British Artists. Peter Clossick became friends with the painter, the late Frank Auerbach, through the model Joan Yardley-Mills, whom both artists frequently painted. Auerbach was an admirer of Clossick’s work. Peter Clossick exhibits regularly both in the UK and abroad.
This exhibition gives an insightful overview of the significant period which formed what is known as School of Paris and includes works that are accessible to a wider market of collectors. The exhibition runs at David Simon Contemporary until 28 September.
