Gareth Edwards RWA: After the Rain
3 - 27 November 2017
Gareth Edwards' work has slowly evolved in recent years from abstraction toward a more specifically landscape based approach. The paintings remain open and free with abstracted elements but are now more spatial, more elemental and evoke emotional weathers and poetic atmospheres as much as topological features. This exhibition debuts Edwards' work at David Simon Contemporary following the artist winning the 'David Simon Contemporary Prize" at the Royal West of England Academy, 2016. A new body of ceramics by Gabriele Koch has been carefully selected to accompany this exhibition.
Contemporary land and seascape painter Gareth Edwards graduated in 1984 with a BA Hons in Art History from London University Board. Subsequently a graduate of Goldsmiths College and currently a prominent member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, London born Edwards is a resident of St Ives’ historic Porthmeor Studios in West Cornwall, once occupied by such luminaries as Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson and Francis Bacon. He was elected a full RWA academician in 2004. Invited artist at FIAF Libero Arts Festival, Abruzzo, Italy 2018.
