"Items within the Field & Country collection feature a colour palette which focusses on deep forest greens of the tree tops near my studio, through the fresh grass greens towards the pale sandy tones of the parched grasses. The long sunny spells of dry weather having bleached the vibrancy from underfoot, or the haybales slowly altering their state in the midday sun. All set off by the blue sky of course."
Emily-Kriste Wilcox has been concentrating full-time on on making ceramics since graduating from Bath Spa University some fifteen years ago. Through her commitment to her work she creates vessels of a very individual and distinctive form. Slab-built in earthenware, they have an immediately identifiable method of incarnation, each piece is raised up on an inset foot, joints are not smoothed away but become a highlighted feature and the rim of each piece is formed by a separate length of clay. There is something painterly and expressive about the decoration of each piece. Using a cool colour palette of blues, whites and greens, and exuding a freshness with broad and bold layers of overlapping glazes. This new collection of a dozen pieces complements the paintings of Julia Cooper perfectly.
