Biography
Stargazers
Born in 1961 in Edinburgh, Jackie Philip studied Fine Art at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, at Wimbledon School of Art, London and at The Royal Academy Schools, London from 1978 - 1986. She attained BA 1st Class Honours and MFA. Since completing her postgraduate studies, she has been painting full time as a professional artist and lectured in London, Florence and Auckland.
Jackie Philip's paintings are in the genre of Still Life and Landscape and are created using raw pigment and oil on canvas to create a rich tapestry of colour and luminosity of light. The images are informed by a variety of cultures and influenced by her travels in SE Asia and Europe, as well as her native Scotland.
Jackie has exhibited widely abroad and in the UK and her paintings can be found in both corporate and private collections in the UK, Italy, Barbados, the Americas, Hong Kong and Australasia. Jackie has received many prestigious scholarships and awards including The Italian Government Scholarship, British Institute Fund and RSA Hospital Field Award and Residency.

Jackie Philip
A Colourist in the Caribbean 2 - 25 Sep 2021A trip to Barbados for a few weeks last year turned into seven months of being stranded on the Caribbean island, partly due to Lockdown and partly to the fallout from the volcanic eruptions of La Soufriere on St Vincent. Jackie Philip set up a temporary studio to make good use of this time. She came to observe the abundance of nature in all its forms, from the tiniest dragonflies, to birds, fruit, flowers and mahogony trees to the expansive canopy of stars and moonlight overhead. The images that resulted are informed by a variety of cultures and traditions and her latest paintings are more expansive and filled with luminosity and colour.Read more
